I have been a public speaker for as long as I can remember. When most proud and ridiculously expecting parents were sending their children to piano lessons and basketball camps, I was made to declaim, debate & read Sean Covey’s “7 Habits to Highly Effective Teens” at only 11 years of age.
True enough in my first two years of high school, I became a debater for the La Salle Greenhills debating team headed by the late & legendary “Mr. 65” - Mr. Danilo Antonil. While I was really focused on it, the La Salle team was at the bottom while the Blue Eagles were unbeatable on top. Yup - not very good for my pride.
So I thought to make public speaking practical for me - and thus I learned close-up magic when I was in 3rd year. Not only did it help boost my self-confidence, my ability to express myself & conversational skills, it helped me a lot in impressing chix and making side income by performing in events.
This became my full-time sideline (eh?) until I was in 2nd year college when some evil salespeople convinced me to get into network marketing. AHA! There I was using public speaking for evil - to convince hundreds and hundreds of people to become recruited and to buy our overpriced products! (evil laugh mwahahahahahaha.)
When my conscience caught up with me, I decided to take it easy by being a normal student which led to me becoming a normal graduate. As any normal graduate I got myself a normal job in a typical office desk as a typical office drone.
Well this didn’t work for me. This is why I wish to thank my friend Mica for bringing me to the Manila Toastmaster’s Club! Just a few hours ago, my love for public speaking was rekindled and I now think of a bunch of career options where I can apply this wonderful, wonderful art. It seems that this skill can take me places and I wasn’t even aware of it!
When I was made to talk, I was humbly glad that I’m not “too rusty” and I’m happy with the impression that I made. I hope with my membership and the awesome training system they have, I can be the best public speaker that I can be beyond the limits of Fiel the debater, Fiel the magician & Fiel the networker.
Hopefully, I can finally be Fiel the ____ where ____ is inseparable with Fiel.
